In December of year, we wrote /tim-robbins-to-play-tony-starks-dad-in-iron-man-2/here that Tim Robbins was up for a role in Iron Man 2 playing Howard Stark - the father to Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark. Now, Robbins has told ReelTalk that the news was only rumor.
The original news suggested that Robbins would replace the Gerard Sanders, who appeared in Iron Man as Howard Stark, for an important flashback sequence that is going to to set up The Avengers and The First Avenger: Captain America. However, when asked about the truth Robbins said "That was an Internet rumor. Can't trust those Internets."

The idea behind the flashback sequence led many to suspect that the elder Stark was going to be involved with the Super Soldier project - the same project responsible for creating Captain America, and alluded to in Emil Blonsky's transformation into the Abomination in The Incredible Hulk. Of course, just because Robbins is out doesn't mean that the sequence might not still appear in Iron Man 2.
Iron Man 2, directed by Jon Favreau, will continue the tale of Tony Stark and his armored alter-ego as he continues his transformation from billionaire industrialist to super-hero. Robert Downey, Jr. will star as Tony Stark, with Paltrow returning in the role of his assistant Pepper Potts. Don Cheadle, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson also star. Iron Man 2 blasts into theatres May 7, 2010.
