Pulp Fiction star Tim Roth has joined the ensemble cast of Canadian heist adventure film Stealing McCloud. Roth will play a character named Marc McCloud, inspired by the real-life software mogul John McAfee, the founder of McAfee Corp. computer security software company. John McAfee was arrested in Spain in 2020 over U.S. tax evasion charges and subsequently incarcerated. In June 2021, McAfee was found dead in his prison cell in an apparent suicide shortly after his extradition to the U.S. was authorized.

Stealing McCloud centers on its titular character Marc McCloud attempting to break out of prison. Alex Essoe (Midnight Mass, Starry Eyes) will also star alongside Tim Roth. As per The Hollywood Reporter, Essoe "will play a friend of McCloud who, after the eccentric billionaire tech titan is arrested in Europe on tax evasion charges, assembles a group of friends to help him escape to freedom." Stealing McCloud will be directed by indie filmmaker and rapper Logan Yuzna from an original screenplay by Timothy York. Yuzna released a statement celebrating Roth’s casting:

"An absolute honor to have my first live-action feature film starring Tim Roth, who has been a hero of mine since The Hit, which was also shot in Spain. The rest of the cast and production team is outstanding, and I’m looking forward to this road heist filming gaining wide distribution."

Stealing McCloud also stars Nina Kiri, Pedro Miguel Arce, Anarosa Butler, Peter Shinkoda, Yoli Fuller, Karen Hassan, Richard Sammel, George Stroumboulopoulos, Andy Yu, Françoise Yip, and Anna Safroncik.Vikings star Alex Hogh Andersen is also in discussions to join the cast. While a detailed plot synopsis hasn’t been released yet, writer Timothy York revealed what the audience can expect from Stealing McCloud.

"I was inspired by the story of John McAfee and how could we break him out of jail if he hadn’t unfortunately passed away waiting for extradition. John was a hero of mine, and Eric Oh, myself and Logan threw around several ideas on how we could honor his tech abilities and legacy. McCloud became the instrument."

Stealing McCloud will film in Barcelona this April and will participate at the Cannes Film Market in the summer. Depending on the distributor, 2023 is the earliest fans will get to see this alternate history drama.

Tim Roth Will Reprise His Decade-Old Marvel Role Of Abomination In She-Hulk

Abomination Vs. Wong in Shang-Chi Confirmed by Kevin Feige

Tim Roth played the primary antagonist Emil Blonsky/Abomination in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, the second film in the MCU. The Rob Roy star stunned fans when he reprised his role as the Hulk villain in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Roth will next appear in the Disney+ series She-Hulk alongside Tatiana Maslany and Mark Ruffalo. However, Abomination won’t be as villainous as before, Roth told THR last year.

"I did The Incredible Hulk years ago, just because I thought my kids would be embarrassed by it. I did it for them and I really enjoyed making it. So when they came to me and said: "We're adapting the She-Hulk thing. Can you come back as that character again?" I was like, sure. It should be fun. I was very surprised though because it was difficult at first. It was only when Mark Ruffalo came in to shoot his stuff that I went: 'Oh, that's how you do it! With a sense of humor!'"

She-Hulk drops on Disney+ this Summer and will follow a sitcom format consisting of ten 30-minute episodes.
