The return of Tim Roth to the MCU in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law set up a reunion between Emil Blonsky and Bruce Banner, but the actor has cast doubt over whether scenes filmed involving the two characters have made it into the final cut of the show. Of course, the last time the two characters met on screen was in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, when Edward Norton was playing the title role, so this would be the first time Roth and Mark Ruffalo had shared screen time as their super-powered counterparts.
Roth made his unexpected Marvel return in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, appearing in a scene that has been referenced in She-Hulk, and he has been central to the early episodes of the series. However, while Roth has been quick to praise Ruffalo for the short time they worked together, he is not entirely sure whether the scenes will be used or not. He told The Hollywood Reporter:
"I was a fan of Mark as an actor. He’s just an incredible guy and an incredible actor. I’ve always wanted to work with him, and it just happened to be this, which was kind of fun. But we messed around with [the recasting]. I don’t know if any of it made it into [She-Hulk], but when I looked at him as we were shooting, I was like, 'You’ve put on weight. There’s something about you …' So it was that kind of stuff. We messed around, and we were encouraged to improvise and play. So we dealt with [the recasting]."
Tim Roth Doesn’t Know What His Future Is In the MCU
Like many actors joining the MCU, Tim Roth doesn’t know whether he will be returning to the MCU in any future projects or not. While his character had a huge absence between The Incredible Hulk and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the short scene in the latter of these, and his lengthier role in She-Hulk could be a sign of more to come, or could simply be a rounding off of his character. While the answer to the question of Roth’s MCU future could be answered in a more definite way by the end of She-Hulk, for now Roth says he is as in the dark as anyone. He previously told Screen Rant:
"I'll tell you what, I don't know anything. I don't know what they want to do. It's fine; that's on them. That's what they do. But it's fun. This was hard work, but it was fun at the same time. The good ones to have in your life are."
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law has not been a full-on, action-packed Marvel adventure, but has delivered a light and fun show that could well be seen as something that acts as a catalyst to future events. Whether it is Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters’ comments while breaking the fourth wall, or the inclusion of some familiar MCU characters, which will include Daredevil’s debut, there is certainly plenty to enjoy in the show for those who are happy to accept that not every Marvel project has to follow the same template.
