Fans were hoping to catch a peek at Timothee Chalamet at the red carpet for the premiere of Bones and All in Milan, but far too many of them showed up. Per Variety, it was reported that the film's red carpet for the event was canceled when it became surrounded by throngs of Chalamet fans. Because it was reminiscent of Beatlemania, authorities quickly grew concerned that they would not be able to handle such a large crowd, potentially putting Chalamet's safety at risk. The decision was then made to cancel the red carpet, certainly disappointing the large crowd outside, though the screening still went forward as planned.Footage has also been released showcasing a peek at the fans surrounding the building. While the crowd is not unruly, the sheer number of people seems to be what prompted the decision to cancel. You can take a look at the video below.
The film previously held its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival in September, where it won a Silver Lion for best direction. At that premiere, Chalamet was similarly greeted by many fans, though he was able to meet with many of them as there wasn't a shutdown, perhaps due to the differences in security and the venues.
Bones and All Comes from Luca Guadagnino
Luca Guadagnino directed Bones and All using a screenplay by David Kajganich, though the film is based on the original book by Camille DeAngelis. The film follows Timothee Chalamet and Taylor Russell as Lee and Maren, a pair of cannibalistic lovers taking a road trip across the United States. The film also stars Mark Rylance, Michael Stuhlbarg, Andre Holland, Chloe Sevigny, David Gordon Green, and Jessica Harper.
"For me, it felt like the cannibalism was a metaphor for what your ancestors leave you with – your immediate parents, but also the trauma that you’ve lived with from generations past," Chalamet said of the film's cannibalism theme in an SFX interview. "You wrestle with that. Sometimes it’s something you can actually overcome and break the cycle. And sometimes a curse remains a curse and a blemish remains a blemish."
He added, "During, it felt like this quickly became a metaphor about addiction for me – especially young people who are addicted, are figuring out the most rudimentary things about themselves, what it means to be in love, what it means when you’re in a relationship, what it means to try to support someone in a relationship. You are wrestling with something so intense, so dangerous, as to affect other people’s mortality or your own."
