The DC drama series Titans is coming to an end. It's just been reported (via THR) that the show has been axed and will end with its current fourth season. While that's obviously a bummer for fans hoping to see the show reach season 5, the good news is that the creative team had seen this coming with the Warner Bros. Discovery merger spelling doom for so many other DC projects. This allowed the producers of Titans the chance to properly plan a definitive ending for the end of the season that will conclude the story in a way that will hopefully satisfy the fans.

It's not the only series to be axed, as Titans is getting canceled along with Doom Patrol, another DC show that will end with its own season 4. That series had similarly had its producers plan for a proper ending, so it won't be finishing off with a cliffhanger. The news that both shows are ending has been confirmed with a statement from an HBO Max spokesperson.

“While these will be the final seasons of Titans and Doom Patrol, we are very proud of these series and excited for fans to see their climactic endings,” the statement reads. "We are grateful to Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television for making such thrilling, action-packed, heartfelt series. We thank Titans showrunner Greg Walker, executive producers Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, Richard Hatem, and the team at Weed Road Pictures."

Titans executive producer Greg Walker adds, “I’m immensely proud of our gifted cast, crew and writing staff and their efforts in bringing to life all 49 episodes over the last five-plus years. I couldn’t have asked for better partners in Berlanti Productions, Warner Bros. Television, and HBO Max, and from the beginning, Geoff Johns and Akiva Goldsman. I’m incredibly grateful for their unyielding trust throughout this process. Lastly, I have to thank our incredible fans for their continued support, engagement, and the passionate community they’ve built around our show. We have six episodes left to unleash upon the world that we hope will give our beloved characters the creative closure we all know they deserve.”

Titans Ending Isn't a Big Surprise

Fans may have been optimistic, but Titans ending isn't the surprise of the century. After Warner Bros. Discovery had also canceled other high-profile projects, perhaps most notably the finished movie Batgirl, it was clear that every other DC property was in danger. James Gunn and Peter Safran coming in to map out the next decade's worth of plans for their launch of the DCU also made it less likely that the established DC characters would be sticking around for much longer.

Titans was originally released on DC Universe streaming service before making its move to HBO Max for seasons 3 and 4. The show is created by Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, and Greg Berlanti, and follows a group of young superheroes fighting crime. It stars Brenton Thwaites, Anna Diop, Teagan Croft, Ryan Potter, Curran Walters, Conor Leslie, Alan Ritchson, Minka Kelly, Chelsea Zhang, Joshua Orpin, and Jay Lycurgo.

Let's just hope the final episodes of Titans satisfy fans. You can stream the series on HBO Max.
