Stephen King's novel From a Buick 8 is getting the big screen treatment. According to Variety, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre director Tobe Hooper is the man who will be directing an adaptation of the book.

The plot revolves around a mysterious Buick that the State Troopers have stored in their barracks. After one of the troopers dies, the man's son becomes infatuated with the automobile.

Hooper stated that the film wouldn't be "your stock horror film by any means. There's a really cool, layered quality to the story. The producers, writers and I shared the same sensibility about the project and responded to it in a similar way."

The film does not have a set start date, but will most likely go into production in the early months of 2008.
