A gestating project has just gotten a big bump with a new director and a possible new star. According to Variety, Warner Bros. is readying The 28th Amendment, entering into negotiations with Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck to direct and, possibly, Tom Cruise to star.

German filmmaker von Donnersmarck hasn't directed a picture since his 2006 film The Lives of Others won the Best Foriegn Language Film Oscar, and now he is eyeing up Hollywood projects. With the possible directorial involvement of von Donnersmarck, the project has emerged back on Tom Cruise's radar. He had previously mentioned the possibility of starring in this film alongside Denzel Washington, but the talk died down until now.

The film revolves around an American President who uncovers a secret society that actually runs the government and wants him eliminated. Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are re-writing their original script that they first brought to spec in 1999.
