Tom Cruise’s final two outings as superspy Ethan Hunt, Mission: Impossible 7 and 8, will be called Dead Reckoning – Part One and Two, respectively. The titles were announced during Paramount’s CinemaCon 2022 presentation, along with the first look at Mission Impossible 7. The film will hit the screens next summer, almost two years after its planned July 2021 release date. The final film, Dead Reckoning - Part Two, is currently under production and will come out in 2024, thus concluding the beloved franchise.

Tom Cruise revealed the title and the trailer in a pre-recorded video and he did it in the most Tom Cruise way possible, standing atop a biplane flying over a canyon in South Africa, where M:I 8 is being filmed. "Sorry for the extra noise, as you can see, we are filming the latest installment of Mission: Impossible… Making this film for the big screen in your wonderful theaters," Cruise said in the intro before doing a barrel roll. The trailer followed soon after.

The Top Gun star is currently busy filming M:I 8, which, being his swan song, will have a lot of expectations. Each film in the Mission Impossible franchise has surpassed the previous film in almost every aspect, whether it’s the scale, the stunts, or even the runtime. It remains to be seen how Cruise and the team raise the bar this time around.

Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning – Part One will premiere on July 14, 2022, followed by Part Two on June 28, 2024.

The trailer for Tom Cruise’s much-anticipated Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning – Part I was one of the highlights of Paramount’s CinemaCon presentation. Described as intense and chilling, the footage teased a film more than worthy of its almost $300 million budget. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely to be uploaded for everyone to witness, considering there’s still more than a year to go before Mission Impossible 7 comes out. For now, the following descriptions (courtesy of Deadline) will have to suffice.

The trailer opens with a mysterious voice warning Ethan Hunt "Your days of fighting for the greater good are over." The voice belongs to Henry Czerny, who is reprising his role as Eugene Kittridge, the former director of Impossible Mission Force (IMF). Czerny makes his first appearance in the franchise since 1996’s Mission: Impossible. This is our chance to control the truth…the concepts of right and wrong for everyone for centuries to come," continues Kittridge. "You’ve been fighting to save an ideal that doesn’t exist, never did. You need to pick a side."

The clip also featured shots of Venice, the Vatican, Cruise in the desert, and plenty of fighting and running. After all, it wouldn’t be a Tom Cruise movie without it. There are also motorcycle chases, horse chases, and an intense train fight. The trailer ended with Cruise’s wild motorcycle stunt, which reportedly made many viewers gasp. The scene in discussion includes Cruise driving off his bike from a cliff, jumping off mid-air, and landing with a parachute. And the 59-year-old star miraculously performed it on his own, and that too, without sustaining any injuries.

Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning – Part One will be written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who also made Rogue Nation and Fallout. The films will see the return of Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, and Vanessa Kirby from previous installments. Newcomers include Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Esai Morales, Rob Delaney, Charles Parnell, Indira Varma, Mark Gatiss, and Cary Elwes.
