Tom Cruise might be packing his bags for Italy for his latest project. According to Variety, Cruise has bought the rights for Douglas Preston's book, The Monster of Florence, for his United Artists banner.

The book recounts a series of eight gruesome murders that happened in Florence between 1968 and 1985. Christopher McQuarrie has been tapped to adapt the book and it was said that Cruise will produce and he will decide whether or not to star in the film once he reads McQuarrie's script.

No production schedule was set for the film. This serial killer case was also the inspiration for Thomas Harris' novel, Hannibal.
