Tom Hanks is widely regarded as one of the greatest actors of all time, and rightly so. He's been part of some iconic and groundbreaking movies like Saving Private Ryan, Forrest Gump, Philadelphia, and many others. But which movie does Tom Hanks love the most? Hanks recently appeared on The Bill Simmons Podcast and was asked the same question. However, the actor has a vastly different opinion on what constitutes a favorite film. When asked to rank his top-three Tom Hanks movies, the Hollywood veteran replied, "I would not do it according to the way the movies came out. I would do by way of the personal experience that I had when I was doing them, which is very different."

Can't say we blame Hanks for choosing this criterion. Considering his vast filmography, it would be incredibly difficult to pick the three best movies. But moving on, here are the movies Hanks had the best time working on. At the top is the 1992 sports drama, A League of Their Own. Based on the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, A League of Their Own remains an underrated Tom Hanks movie. Here is what he said,

"I would probably say No. 1 would be A League of Their Own because all I did all summer was play baseball. I shagged flies. I ate turkey dogs. I took infield with (co-star) Robin Knight and a ton of other people. I played baseball all summer long in Evansville, Indiana, and at Wrigley Field... It was a great summer and my entire family still speaks about it."

Taking the second spot is the 2000 survival drama Cast Away. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, Cast Away starred Tom Hanks as a FedEx executive stranded on a deserted island. While his character's journey in the film wasn't nearly as fun to watch, Hanks seemed to have a great time making it. He says,

"We just had bold adventures when we were making that movie. We were out in the middle of the ocean trying to grab shots. And we were off in Fiji on two different occasions, and, again, had my whole family with me. There was nothing but adventures every single day."

The third pick was a surprising one-2012's sci-fi epic Cloud Atlas. Directed by the Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer, Cloud Atlas had Tom Hanks playing six roles in six different storylines. The scale and ambition of the film, paired with the exotic locations, made for a magical experience for the veteran actor. Hanks says,

"We shot on a hope and a dream and nothing but a circle of love in Berlin, Majorca, Dresden and all over Germany. That was the first time I'd ever shot extensively in Germany, and I was surrounded by history. But the work itself was that we were part of this big, massive ensemble of fantastic people who were just trying to do the hardest, best work on this deep throw."

Tom Hanks seems to prefer shooting outdoors with his family instead of inside film studios, as he once mentioned in his interview. The beautiful, scenic Fiji and the rising sun of the east particularly left a big impact on Hanks. His latest movie, Finch, is set on a post-apocalyptic earth. Miguel Sapochnik (Game of Thrones) directed the film, with Hanks playing a dying man trying to ensure his beloved dog's survival after he's gone. Finch is available for streaming on Apple TV+.
