Tom Hiddleston has previously revealed that season two of Loki would begin filming this summer, and it looks like he wasn’t wrong. New images taken in London, England have revealed Hiddleston back on set as Loki and have also made its first hints at references to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe, specifically last year’s Eternals. Although the first season ended with Loki finding himself in a very different version of the TVA to the one he started in, it seems that won’t stop the season from integrating itself with the MCU in some ways.

The events of the second season of Loki are currently shrouded in mystery, but with the presence of Kang the Conqueror being unveiled in the season one finale, Owen Wilson’s Mobius seemingly unaware of who Loki is, and plenty of unraveling multiverse theories to work with, there is certainly a lot of interest in how the new season will play out and impact the MCU’s future. In the latest set images, Tom Hiddleston has been spotted on set wearing formal attire in what appears to be a scene from the past, with vintage cars suggesting that Loki’s time-traveling fun has just begun.

The images also show a mock poster for a movie starring Eternals' major Bollywood actor Klingo, played in the movie by Kumail Nanjiani. This is the second time Klingo’s work as an actor in the MCU has been referenced, with him also being name-dropped in Ms. Marvel. While it is likely his Loki connection will be limited to just appearing in poster form, it is just another way the MCU is continuing to ensure that its newer characters are always there somewhere in the background, while they await their chance to appear on-screen again in a meaningful way.

Loki Loki and Others
Marvel Studios

The arrival of Loki on Disney+ became Marvel Studios’ biggest success on the platform and has remained so. With Tom Hiddleston’s Loki being one of the most loved characters in the MCU, it was good to catch up with the God of Mischief as he teamed up with variants of himself, partly kicked off the multiverse saga and ended up playing the hero.

While this version of Loki is not the same one who died at the hands of Thanos in Infinity War, he has become the same character, having been shown his original self’s death and become almost a reformed character. Exactly what will befall him during the second season of Loki is something we have yet to discover, but it is almost certain that there will be plenty of Marvel fans tuning in to find out when the new season airs on Disney+

For the moment, we can expect to see a lot more set photos appearing with cryptic reveals in the coming weeks as Hiddleston and co continue filming. Whether Kevin Feige will be ready to deliver some information on the series at Marvel’s upcoming San Diego Comic-Con panel or the subsequent D23 Expo in September is something that fans will eagerly be waiting to find out.
