Spider-Man: No Way Home is officially the highest-grossing movie of the year, having sped past the billion-dollar mark on Christmas. The film is receiving praise from around the world, and Marvel is seriously considering an Oscar campaign for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Tom Holland, who plays the wall-crawling superhero, recently joked that No Way Home could win him an Oscar. It turns out he really was being serious. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Holland discussed his MCU future and No Way Home’s Oscar chances.

In a year that has Benedict Cumberbatch, Will Smith, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Denzel Washington vying for the prestigious Best Actor award, Tom Holland’s chances to attain Oscar glory are slim to none. Plus, superhero movies are generally overlooked at the Academy Awards. However, Spider-Man: No Way Home is one of the best-received movies of the year, with high ratings from both critics and audiences. There is a high chance it might earn a Best Picture nomination.

But could we see Tom Holland hosting the Oscars? When asked the same question by THR, Holland was unsure if his busy schedule would allow him to host but said he wouldn’t mind doing so in the future.

"Maybe in the future, but in all honesty I’m just too busy right now. I don’t have the time. I’ve got an Uncharted press tour to do, and then I start shooting in early March for this TV show [Apple TV+’s The Crowded Room] which is going to take up a lot of my time and is definitely the hardest role I’ve ever taken on. So maybe one day in the future. But no, not right now. Honestly, I just don’t have the time. And you know I would love to do that — I love that kind of thing, I love being put under pressure and doing things that I feel uncomfortable doing. So I’m interested in it, but I just don’t have the time."

But Holland quickly backpedaled on his comments, as if the proposition took a while to sink in. Holland got a little too excited all of a sudden and said he would certainly host the Oscars if asked to. He answered the reporter:

"I just wanted to quickly backtrack on what I said. You asking me about the Oscars — you’re the first person to bring that up — and I’m sitting here going, ‘Of course I would host the f*****g Oscars!’ I just went to the bathroom and I was looking at myself in the mirror and I was like, ‘What kind of f*****g idiot wouldn’t host the Oscars?’ So yeah, if they ask me to, I would, and it would be very fun. I would really enjoy it."

Tom Holland also revealed if he would prefer a co-host. "Either/or. I don’t mind. By myself would be great, and with someone I love would be even better. I think a shared experience is always better than a solo experience." And the first person that comes to everyone’s mind is Holland’s partner and Spider-Man: No Way Home co-star Zendaya. Holland says he likes the idea of hosting with her but doesn’t think that’s what Zendaya would want. "I could run it by her. But as for her answer, I’m not too sure."

It’s unlikely we’ll see Holland put his charisma to good use at the 94th Academy Awards, which will take place on March 27, 2022. He is too busy at the moment and has multiple film and television projects lined up. Holland will next be seen alongside Mark Wahlberg in Uncharted, the live-action adaptation of the eponymous PlayStation video game. Uncharted comes out on February 11, 2021.
