With the release of Crystal Dynamics' new action game Tomb Raider today, the game studio and GK Films are feeling the pressure to reboot the film franchise. They are working very closely to bring the action franchise back to the big screen with a younger Lara Croft in what will essentially be a prequel.

Head of studio at Crystal Dynamics Darrell Gallagher expressed his excitement for working with the film studio and where they are planning to take the film.

"They are working from this new take that we've given them, It's a good partnership. We're seeing the challenges through the same lens. It was important for both of us to have a cohesive version of the franchise. We didn't want to see a film version that was a continuation of the old 'Tomb Raider' films."

Creative Director for Crystal Dynamics Noah Hughes said this about the character.

"Looking at Lara as a character, she was still going to be an intellectual heroine, a brilliant archeologist, but more athletic, more competent in traversal and puzzle-solving and combat, She really embodies adventure. She's an expression of all the things that are exciting and fun about going on epic adventures. There's an X factor that no one can explain but is universal in design. She's a great character to work with."

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life starred Angelina Jolie and brought in almost half a billion dollars worldwide. The question now is who will take the place of the leading lady in the new franchise?
