Tommy Lee Jones has plans to reboot Mark Rydell's classic western film The Cowboys.

The 1972 western starred John Wayne and centered on a rancher that recruits a group of novice ranch hands for a four hundred mile cattle run. No casting details have been announced.

Tommy Lee Jones is directing, writing and producing the project with Donald De Line. This project will be his third time in the director's chair, helming The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada in 2005 and The Homesman this year. He will next be seen in Luc Besson's crime drama The Family later this month.

No production schedule has been released.
