It seems that Universal Pictures is going back to the original screenwriter of a popular action franchise for the next film installment. Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Universal has brought back Tony Gilroy to write The Bourne Legacy.

Gilroy previously wrote the first two films in the series - The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy - and co-wrote the last film in the trilogy, The Bourne Ultimatum, with George Nolfi and Scott Z. Burns.

It was also said that this new film will not be based off The Bourne Legacy book by Eric Lustabader, even though the film will apparently take on the same title.

Star Matt Damon had previously said that he will not return to the film series unless director Paul Greengrass was on board. Although Greengrass had stated that he will not direct the fourth film, it remains to be seen if Gilroy's involvement might change Damon's mind.
