Toshiaki Karasawa has just signed on to star in Toho films highly anticipated sci-fi trilogy 20th Century Boy. According to Variety, the trilogy is based on the hit comic by Naoki Urasawa and will be produced by Nobuyuki Iinuma.

20th Century boy is about a middle-aged store manager (Karasawa) who wrote a prediction about the end of the world when he was a teenager, which seems to be coming true. The trilogy will be shot on location in seven countries, including the U.S., the U.K., Thailand and China.

The first film of the trilogy 20th Century Boy is scheduled to be released August 30th of this year.
