Toshiba in conjunction with Memory Tech Corporation have been hard at work on a brand new disc.

In a story from Home Media Retailing, those two companies have created "a second-generation single-sided optical disc that could accommodate and play both standard-DVD and HD DVD formats."

This new disc has three layers, "30GB of HD DVD storage capacity and 4.7GB of standard capacity." The 2004 disc only had "15GB of HD DVD and 4.7BG of standard DVD content."

"We are getting very positive feedback from the market," said Pony Canyon retail manager, Hideki Oyagi, in an interview with BusinessWire. "The new three layer format will allow us to develop even more products and I'm sure it will accelerate acceptance of the HD DVD format in the market."
