Lionsgate’s upcoming project cast the famous country music artist Trace Adkins as the “bad guy.” The upcoming action-packed western film Desperate Riders, directed by Michael Feifer ( of Catch the Bullet, Last Shoot Out), promises “all roads lead to justice” in the latest trailer. From its looks, the film is everything fans would want a Western to be: big shootouts with a larger-than-life tone overall.

The official synopsis of Desperate Riders, as iterated by Lionsgate, reads:

“The action begins as Kansas Red rescues young Billy from a card-game shootout. The boy asks Red for help protecting his family from Thorn, an outlaw who’s just kidnapped Billy’s mother, Carol. As Red and Billy ride off to rescue Carol, they run into the beautiful and tough-as-nails Leslie, who’s managed to escape Thorn’s men. The three-race to stop Thorn’s wedding to Carol with guns a-blazing. But here’s the catch: Does she want to be rescued?”

Trace Adkins takes up guns instead of a guitar in the film and leaves a pile of corpses in his wake as the bloodthirsty and cunning outlaw Thorn, who is the villain. As mentioned before, Desperate Riders brings back the Wild West to the silver screen in all seriousness, with a certain John Wayne-esque grandeur. The film features intense action and gunfights as well as the campy vibes one usually associates with a Western flick, where a Cowboy party sets out in search of a vicious outlaw.

The cast of Desperate Riders is a rather long list of talented actors, like Drew Waters (True Detective) in the role of Kansas Red, Vanessa Evigan (Only God Can) as Leslie, Sam Ashby (Sweet Magnolias) as Young Billy, and Victoria Pratt (Mutant X) as Carol. Rob Mayes (My Christmas Inn), Brock O’Hurn (The Resort), Cowboy Troy, Erin Bethea (Fireproof), Peter Sherayko (Tombstone), T. Graham Brown, Roy Snow, Tom Berenger, Fred Yanda, Kevin Harris, Jerry Bestpitch, Vernon Walker (Catch the Bullet), and Torry Martin form the rest of the significant ensemble featuring in the film.

This is not the first time Adkins is making an appearance in the film. As fans may recall, he had previously been in the 2018 musical drama I Can Only Imagine, where he starred with stars like Dennis Quaid and J. Michael Finley. The county music star starred in two back-to-back films in October this year: the action film 13 Minutes, with Amy Smart and Will Peltz, and yet another Western film called Old Henry, where he starred with Tim Blake Nelson and Stephen Dorff.
