Sweet Tooth, a live-action adaptation of the original DC comic series by Jeff Lemire, first premiered on Netflix in 2021 and became the newest hit show on the streaming platform, being renewed for a second season almost immediately. Jim Mickle serves as the series showrunner and an executive producer, who also directed other projects like horror film We Are What We Are (2013), which starred award-winning Ozark star Julia Garner. Other executive producers include Robert Downey Jr and his wife Susan Downey, Amanda Burrell, Linda Moran, and Beth Schwartz. Filmed entirely in New Zealand, the show boasts stars such as Christian Convery, who also made an appearance in Elizabeth Banks' comedy horror Cocaine Bear, the statuesque Nonso Anozie who is recognizable from Game of Thrones, Adeel Akhtar (Enola Holmes 2), Stefania LaVie Owen (Paper Spiders), Dania Ramirez (Once Upon a Time), Aliza Vellani (Colony), James Brolin (Lightyear) who serves as the show's narrator, Will Forte (Strays), and Neil Sandilands (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes).

The show's premise is set in a post-apocalyptic setting, a decade after a catastrophe called "The Great Crumble" devastated humankind with a pandemic-level virus called the Sick. Most of the world's population was wiped out, but then strange human-animal hybrids started being born. A complete mystery, no one knows if they were the cause of the virus, or born as a result of it. The remaining humans fear the hybrids because of this and many opt to hunt them down. The story follows Gus (Christian Convery), a young deer-hybrid who lives in the woods with his father (Will Forte) who dies when he's just nine years old. Gus comes across a box buried by his father beneath a tree that holds a photo of his mother with the word "Colorado", where she is presumably. He sets off to find her, accompanied by a man named Tommy Jeppard (Nonso Anozie) who rescues him from hunters. However, the end of the season saw Gus and other hybrid children captured by a faction known as the Last Men, lead by General Abbott (Neil Sandilands).

The trailer opens with Gus's mother Birdie (Amy Seimetz) musing over how things went so terribly wrong across the country, which tore them apart from one another. Gus comes face-to-face with the fearsome General Abbott, who is seeking to create a cure for the Sick that continues to plague what's left of humankind, which will also solidify his leadership over the Last Men. However, to make that cure he plans to use the hybrids he's captured as guinea pigs. Jeppard and Eden (Dania Ramirez) set out to help rescue the children from the clutches of the Last Men since no one else will. Gus and the other hybrids also refuse to go down without a fight, and he plans to work with Dr. Singh (Adeel Akhtar) on finding a real cure while also diving deep into the origins of the hybrids, and how The Great Crumble first happened. The trailer promises a dramatic rollercoaster of excitement, action, and profoundly emotional highs and lows that will peel back the layers and reveal the truth behind everything, all in the hopes of saving what's left of humanity.

The second season of Sweet Tooth premieres on Netflix Thursday, April 27th. The trailer can be viewed below.
