Michael Bay, like it or not, is hard at work and deep into production on the fifth installment of the Transformers franchise. Even though the film is still about a year away, we have been getting tons of updates on Transformers: The Last Knight from casting announcements, villain reveals and plot details. A new report has also finally given us some in-depth story and character details for The Last Knight.

A new report courtesy of JoBlo claims to not only have a list of new and returning characters for the film, but it also claims to know the whereabouts of Optimus Prime and the main hook of the plot. Be warned, potential spoilers are ahead for The Last Knight, so read on at your own risk.

"The story for Transformers: The Last Night will involve Optimus Prime finding his home planet, Cybertron, now a dead planet, which he comes to find he was responsible for killing. He finds a way to bring the planet back to life, but in order to do so he needs to find an artifact. And of course, that artifact is on Earth."

So if the report is true, that means we will finally get to see Cybertron, even though we have seen it a bit in flashbacks, but it sounds like it will be a pretty big fixture in the movie. Because Optimus will be occupied, the report notes that Bumblebee will be back and in a leadership role, along with Hound, Crosshairs and Drift who will be based out of the badlands in South Dakota. Oh, and the Dinobots will reportedly be back as well and allegedly in a larger role than their disappointing very short turn at the end of Age of Extinction.

So Optimus will clearly have to return to Earth to get the mysterious artifact that the report references and the plot of the film will go a little bit off the rails from there, depending on how accurate this report is. Supposedly, the artifact that can fix Cybertron is tied into the King Arthur days and more specifically, the magician known as Merlin. Here is what the report claims.

"Somehow the artifact ties into Merlin, the magician of King Arthur lore. Apparently, the power of magic was given to Merlin by a Transformer and somehow the artifact ties into this."

JoBlo speculated that the artifact may wind up being the sword Excalibur, but that really needs to be taken with a grain of salt as that was pure speculation. For that matter, all of this needs to be taken with a degree of caution, because the studio hasn't confirmed it officially. We also know that Anthony Hopkins has definitely joined the cast, and it looks like he will be playing one of three new "English" Transformers. With the three listed, it seems fairly obvious who Hopkins is going to play.

"One such character is called "The Creator" who is said to have ties to the origins of the Transformers. A Transformer with an English accent named Cogman, whose alt-mode is an Astin Martin, will appear, as well as a Transformer named Squeaks whose alt mode is a Vespa."

So, it seems like a lock that Hopkins will play The Creator based on the description. Lastly, the report does indeed confirm that not only will Megatron be in the film, but he will be the main villain and will have an alt mode as a jet fighter, for whatever that is worth. Mark Wahlberg and Josh Duhamel are returning for the film and they will be joined by Isabela Moner, Britain's loneliest dog Freya and of course, Peter Cullen as the voice of Optimus Prime. Transformers: The Last Knight drops on June 23, 2017.
