Paramount Pictures rolled out its 3D sequel Transformers: Dark of the Moon last night, with a slew of both pre-midnight and midnight screenings before today's official opening. The movie took in an impressive $13.5 million from both sets of screenings last night.

The studio opened Transformers: Dark of the Moon in over 2,700 3D theaters in pre-midnight showings, which earned an estimated $5.5 million. At midnight, Transformers: Dark of the Moon opened in both 2D and 3D theaters, which took in an estimated $8 million. As for midnight screenings, Transformers: Dark of the Moon still finished in second place on the year, with The Hangover Part II earning $10.4 million from midnight shows last month. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen took in a whopping $16 million from midnight screenings in 2009.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon opens in 4,011 theaters starting today. Box office analysts are predicting it will earn between $155 and $165 million between now and the July 4 holiday.
