The upcoming Transformers sequel-slash-prequel, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, has added Everything Everywhere All at Once star Michelle Yeoh and SNL alumni Pete Davidson to its roster. Revealed courtesy of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts director Steven Caple Jr. via Instagram, both Yeoh and Davidson will be providing their voices to the project, with Yeoh set to play Airazor while Davidson will voice Mirage.

Michelle Yeoh is well-renowned for her incredible martial arts skills, skills that she has been demonstrating for decades in the likes of Police Story 3: Super Cop, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and the recent A24 hit Everything Everywhere All at Once. Yeoh’s role, Airazor, is a Maximal (the descendants of the Autobots) who once led a team of unstoppable female Maximals and has the ability to fly.

Pete Davidson, meanwhile, is a Saturday Night Live star and has recently starred in such big-screen outings as Good Mourning, Bodies Bodies Bodies, I Want You Back, The Suicide Squad and The King of Staten Island. His role, Mirage, is an Autobot who can transform into a red Ferrari 458 and made his live-action debut in 2011’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

No doubt that both Michelle Yeoh and Pete Davidson will make welcome additions to the world of the Transformers when Transformers: Rise of the Beasts hits screens next year.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Will Be Led by Anthony Ramos & Dominique Fishback

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is all set to be led by Anthony Ramos (In the Heights) and Dominique Fishback (Judas and the Black Messiah), with a screenplay written by Army of the Dead's Joby Harold. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has been confirmed to take place in 1994 and has been described as a spiritual successor to the 80s set Bumblebee. Thus, also making it a prequel-of-sorts to the long-running Transformers cinematic franchise, which began back in 2007.

While there is still a lot we do not know about Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, it has been confirmed that Bumblebee and Optimus Primal (voiced by Hellboy star Ron Perlman) will be the main robot players, with some recent artwork revealing what they will look like when the movie lands in theaters.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts director Steven Caple Jr. has since explained his approach to bringing the beloved Transformers to life, revealing that he will take inspiration from the 90s action classic Terminator 2: Judgment Day. "I think you'll feel the sense of a journey and expedition in this film. This go-around that connects all of those to what you're saying. Terminator 2 is classic,” the filmmaker said. “The heaviness of the metal, if you will, all that stuff plays into it. So I think when you're looking at our film and looking at sort of where we're taking it, [we] kind of want to bring that classic expedition, that classic journey through New York and where we go from there."

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is scheduled to be released on June 9, 2023, by Paramount Pictures.
