As a rabid movie fan, there really is nothing like a killer franchise retrospective documentary to get me ten types of excited. Notable examples of this fun docu-genre include the four-hour A Nightmare on Elm Street doc Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy, the six-hour Friday the 13th doc Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th, and Bill Philputt's fun and informative More Brains! A Return to the Living Dead. And today it sounds like the good old Tremors series will be getting its own franchise retrospective documentary soon to mark its 30th anniversary.

At least if we can believe what snot-nosed little punk Melvin Plug aka Robert Jayne aka Bobby Jacoby has to say on the matter. All jokes aside, original Tremors actor Robert Jayne took to Facebook the other day to let the world know that, yep, NBC Universal has a Tremors franchise anniversary documentary in the works. And not just that, he also reveals that there is a big event planned for January that will reunite the actor with "some old friends again."

Specifically, he writes this.

"Working with NBC Universal on the "TREMORS" Film franchise anniversary documentary, so amazing how something can sustain through time. BIG event planned for January to celebrate the original film, looking forward to seeing some old friends again..."

Unfortunately, there is no word on just how extensive this upcoming Tremors franchise anniversary documentary is going to be. Or the "BIG" event Jayne mentions. So I guess this means, for the time being, all of us Tremors fans can only hold out hope that this retrospective will be something more substantial than, let's say, an hour-long TV special. My fingers are firmly crossed. How about you? Good. Keep them that way until we know more.

Now even though I will take a Tremors franchise retrospective documentary any day of the week, the timing here is pretty spot-on as the series will be, as mentioned above, celebrating its 30th anniversary next year. Yes, for those that might not know, the Tremors franchise was kicked off back in 1990 with City Slickers director Ron Underwood's original creature-feature classic starring Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward. Since the success of that flick, the franchise has spawned a series of sequels Tremors 2: Aftershocks, Tremors 3: Back to Perfection, Tremors 5: Bloodlines and Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell, along with a prequel Tremors 4: The Legend Begins, a semi-successful SyFy series, and a failed TV revival with Kevin Bacon.

And it looks like the long-running series has no plans of slowing down as there is a seventh film Tremors: Island Fury filming as we speak. This new Tremors movie will see the return of franchise mainstay Michael Gross (Family Ties) once again as Graboid hunter number one, Burt Gummer. This time he will be joined by the likes of Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite), Richard Brake (Three From Hell), and Flaca from Orange Is the New Black on an adventure that sees a rich playboy transporting the killer worms from beyond the stars to his private island to hunt for sport. Sounds like a blast to me! In the meantime, this story comes to us from actor Robert Jayne over on Facebook.
