Following the news that Trevor Noah would soon be stepping down from his position as the host of The Daily Show, Comedy Central has announced the date that his final show will air. Officially, Noah will sign off on Thursday, Dec. 8, this following a celebratory look back at his greatest moments kicking off on Monday, Dec. 5. The series will then go on hiatus until Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023 with additional details forthcoming. A new host has not yet been named.

Noah has been with The Daily Show for seven years. Per the network, he has "moved The Daily Show seamlessly from insightful, hilarious satire to serious, provocative conversations, meeting society’s moments of unrest and uncertainty with clarity and conviction. Whether it was tackling presidential campaigns, police violence and systemic racism or navigating a global pandemic, he has entertained and enlightened audiences through his unique voice and perspective."

"Trevor is an incredible talent who has left an indelible mark on The Daily Show and we’re grateful for his creative partnership over the past seven years,” Chris McCarthy, President & CEO, Paramount Media Networks and MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement.

Noah added, "Chris (McCarthy) has been an amazing leader and partner who has helped me realize my dream of working not just in front of the camera, but also behind the scenes, producing content which now airs across the Paramount family. I’m truly excited to see what the future holds.”

Trevor Noah told viewers in September that he felt like it was time to move on after a seven-year run hosting The Daily Show. He had very kind things to say about his run but seems eager to move on to the next stage of his career.

"I realized that after that seven years, my time is up," Noah said on the show. "But in the most beautiful way. Honestly. I've loved hosting the show. It's been one of my greatest challenges. It's been one of my greatest joys. I have loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh, even when the stories are particularly shitty on the worst days. You know, we've laughed together, we've cried together. But after seven years, I feel like it's time."

It remains to be seen who will be succeeding Noah as the host of the program. Some Samantha Bee fans have been campaigning for her to get the job as a former correspondent of the series; Bee's Full Frontal was canceled earlier this year due to the Warner Bros. Discovery merger. Meanwhile, Daily Show correspondent Jordan Klepper is another name many fans have suggested for the gig. The network has only stated that they're looking forward to what the future will bring with no word on who might become th new host.

"As we look ahead, we're excited for the next chapter in the 25+ year history of The Daily Show as it continues to redefine culture through sharp and hilarious social commentary, helping audiences make sense of the world around them," a Comedy Central statement noted at the time of Noah's original announcement.

For now, fans can first focus on saying farewell to Noah when his final episode airs on Dec. 8, 2022, on Comedy Central.
