Twins star Danny DeVito has provided a promising update on the long, long-awaited sequel, Triplets, revealing that the plan for the project is to begin filming in mid-February 2022. Having been released over 30 years ago, DeVito cannot wait to once again join forces and have some fun with the Austrian Oak that is Arnold Schwarzenegger, with the beloved pair set to reprise their roles as unlikely brothers Julius and Vincent respectively.

"I've kept in touch with Ivan [Reitman] and Arnold [Schwarzenegger] over the years and it's going to be a joy. I can't wait to do it. That's a long time coming. We're going to have some fun and we have Tracy Morgan also in it and I'm so excited about that.”

Directed by Ivan Reitman, the first Twins introduced audiences to the endlessly charming twosome that is Schwarzenegger and DeVito, with the Hollywood legends playing a pair of twins who emerge from an experiment, the aim of which was to create the perfect human being. Separated at birth, they finally meet as adults when Julius comes looking for his much shorter, streetwise twin. While the movie received mixed reviews from critics upon release, it was a commercial success grossing $216 million worldwide, with many wondering ever since whether the frequently proposed sequel would ever come to fruition.

Reitman, who will also return to helm Triplets, has since revealed several details regarding the direction of the follow-up, with Triplets due to introduce 30 Rock star Tracy Morgan as another, until now very secret sibling. "Secretly, there was a third baby born, a Black baby, who hasn't been in touch with his siblings,” Reitman explained about Morgan’s character, who was initially due to be portrayed by Eddie Murphy. “They don't know each other and very early in the movie they meet and it's how they achieve a bond together after all these years. It's really a film about family and, no matter how different we all are, we have to learn to get along. These guys have great chemistry together, and you can see that in the reel, and how much energy they bring out in each other."

Reitman, who has not directed anything since 2014’s sports drama Draft Day, has also revealed what drew him back behind the camera – the convincing words of Arnie. "I haven't directed in a couple years, but Arnold kept saying, 'c'mon, we had such a great time,'" Reitman said. "I just called him in Budapest and he's so excited to see how people respond to the reel as we send it out. The initial reaction has been very strong, and how young Arnold and Danny look and how great the chemistry is with Tracy. I had a great time doing the first one, and this is going to be fun."

Triplets has not yet been given an official release date, but, thanks to the insight of the Hollywood legend that is Danny DeVito, filming is due to commence sometime in February 2022 in Boston. This comes to us courtesy of Forbes.
