According to Variety, Paramount Pictures is going to release Joel and Ethan Coen's remake of True Grit on Christmas Day 2010.

This release will position the film for an awards run and it will also allow True Grit to take advantage of the holiday moviegoing season.

True Grit stars Jeff Bridges as U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn (he was played by John Wayne in the original film). Matt Damon also stars in the movie as a lawman that teams up with Cogburn.

Charles Portis' novel is about a 14-year-old girl who, along with an aging U.S. marshal (Bridges) and another lawman (Damon), tracks her father's killer in hostile Indian territory. Josh Brolin is also in the film.
