Not even something as established as Netflix could escape the up and down of its series’ reception in the past month. In a fascinating turn of events, the sweet dawn of an April spring on Netflix was opened with a miniseries, Beef, which was immediately met with critical acclaim and reached the top 10 ranking in 61 countries — as expected from an A24 production.

Welcomed by generally positive reviews, Transatlantic provided viewers with both entertainment and enlightenment, particularly that of the valiant Emergency Rescue Committee during World War II. But then there’s Florida Man, which, albeit well-anticipated, fell short of expectations but was somewhat watchable nonetheless.

As the streaming giant once again emerged as number one in the cutthroat battle of streaming wars, Netflix is under further demand to step up its game, especially after letting the ever-so-popular sitcom New Girl leave the site this April. And judging from the teased lineup of productions ready for May releases, it seems Netflix has finally decided to give what the subscribers have been looking for: originals with the capacity to deliver quality, worthy of “Remind Me” button clicks (or taps). So, here are the best Netflix original TV series coming this May.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (May 4)

Following the massive popularity and success the main series achieved, the Bridgerton universe is expanding, and fans couldn’t be happier. A specific character outside the Bridgerton family is getting her love story told, and it’s not just any regular member of the nobility but Her Majesty herself.

The spin-off prequel features the young Queen Charlotte’s (India Amarteifio) rise to power and explores how her, as a Black woman, getting married to the King George of England (Corey Mylchreest), a White man, creates a societal shift that changes the world of Bridgerton forever.

Under the capable hands of the five-time Emmy nominee Shonda Rhimes, the Regency period drama is set to course for six episodes. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story’s trailer has long been posted, building up to its Netflix worldwide release on May 4, coming face-to-face with a formidable contender, Disney+’s Star Wars: Visions.

The show will also see the return of Bridgerton stars Golda Rosheuvel, Adjoa Andoh, Ruth Gemmel, and Hugh Sachs as they reprise their respective roles.

After the hot release of Agent Elvis on Mar. 17, Netflix’s NSFW library of adult animation series is about to have a new addition, guaranteed to be as irreverent, offbeat (and most likely as raunchy) as they come, Mulligan. Created by Robert Carlock and Sam Means — the brilliant minds behind the comedy hits 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Mulligan’s official plot reads:

“After Earth is destroyed by an alien attack, a rag-tag band of survivors has to start society over from scratch. It’s an opportunity to learn from humanity’s past mistakes and get things right this time. Or make the same mistakes all over again. Probably the second one.”

Confirmed for a May 12 release date, the comedy employs an ensemble cast, including Nat Faxon, Tina Fey, Chrissy Teigen, Sam Richardson, Dana Carvey, Phil LaMarr, Kevin Michael Richardson, Ayo Edebiri, Ronny Chieng, and Daniel Radcliffe.

The experts Antoni Porowski (Food & Wine), Tan France (Fashion), Karamo Brown (Culture), Bobby Berk (Interior Design), and Jonathan Van Ness (Grooming) once again return to spread emotionally charged makeovers into the life of average heroes and help them achieve better satisfaction.

After seeing the positively strong performance of season 6, the Emmy-winning hit reality TV program was renewed for season 7 and is finally ready for a Netflix premiere on May 12. This time, the fabulous Queer Eye quintet will take us on their journey as they head to New Orleans to “transform the lives of residents who are in need of a fresh start.” — encapsulated in seven episodes.

As one of the best modern romantic comedies in the 2010s, To All The Boys I've Loved Before became an instant fan-favorite, spawning equally successful sequel and threequel. And now, we’re about to see a series spun off from the franchise titled XO, Kitty.

As the title so clearly states, the show focuses on Kitty (Anna Cathcart), the little sister of To All The Boys’ protagonist, Lara Jean, as she moves halfway across the world to Korea to reunite with her long-distance boyfriend at the same Seoul high school attended by her late mother. Developed by the author of the TATB novel trilogy, Jenny Han, the ten episodes of XO, Kitty will be collectively dropped on Netflix on May 18.

The legendary movie star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is ready to make another splash of a comeback with a brand-new Netflix action comedy series, FUBAR, a TV-MA-rated one, and, therefore, the unambiguous, explicit full title F***** Up Beyond All Recognition. The show follows Luke (Schwarzenegger), a CIA operative on the edge of retirement who discovers a family secret and is called back into the field for one last job.

The global backdrop of spies, action, and humor is to accompany FUBAR as our leading man tackles universal family dynamics. Created by the Reacher showrunner Nick Santora, the eight-episode series will make its Netflix debut on May 25.
