Although his newest film, Crimes of the Future, has yet to hit cinemas, David Cronenberg is already looking years ahead for potential new movies. According to recent reports, his latest project, titled: The Shrouds, is in the works. Cronenberg will write and direct the film, which will star Vincent Cassel as an innovative businessman and grieving widower who builds a device to connect with the dead inside a burial shroud. Sound Cronenberg enough for you? The director recently spoke with World of Reel about what might be next after The Shrouds. It turns out a reunion between Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson is on the table.

"It was Robert who actually introduced me to Kristen. They have developed beautifully, separately, as actors. Making arthouse movies and successfully carrying that off." Cronenberg said. "For me, yeah, I can definitely think of a movie, or idea, that would be great to have them both together."

However, the director wanted to reiterate that his schedule is already full for now. He said, "I don't want to get into it because it wouldn't be my next movie, however, it might be problematic since fans might expect a certain kind of relationship and that would get in the way of creating new characters for them."

Cronenberg may have a point. Pattinson and Stewart starred as Edward Cullen and Bella Swan in the Twilight series, and it may be difficult for audiences to see the pairing as anything else.

David Cronenberg is known for his signature body horror and excessive gore, so it's safe to say a film involving the two won't be another love story. Pattinson and Stewart have tried their best to distance themselves from the franchise, starring in multiple indie films and lower-budget productions. Pattinson took roles in the Netflix film, The King and showed off his acting abilities in Robert Egger's The Lighthouse. He recently appeared as Neil in Christopher Nolan's Tenet. This year, Pattinson took on the caped crusader role in Matt Reeve's The Batman, a massive success at the box office. Stewart starred as Princess Diana in the 2021 film Spencer, which received favorable reviews among critics.

This wouldn't be the first time either star paired up with Cronenberg. Robert Pattinson starred in Cosmopolis (2012), which was written, produced, and directed by David Cronenberg. Kristen Stewart plays Timlin, an investigator from the National Organ Registry, in Cronenberg's latest film, Crimes of the Future. Will Stewart and Pattinson star alongside each other once again? For now, we will have to wait and see.
