Following Anthony Mackie’s casting as John Doe in the Peacock TV series based on the Twisted Metal video games, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Encanto star Stephanie Beatriz has joined the project in the role of Quiet, a “ferocious, badass car thief who acts purely on instinct.” While there is still a lot unknown about the new series, filming is expected to take place soon as Mackie alluded to in a previous interview, with the series expected to air sometime next year.

The addition of Beatriz is only the second star to be announced for the series, and according to the press release, her character of Quiet comes from a community who “oppressed her into silence”, explaining her name and her potential backstory to be fleshed out in the show. In other details about the character, Quiet will be looking for revenge in the series, and forms an alliance with Mackie’s John Doe.

Twisted Metal will be written by Cobra Kai’s Jonathan Smith, who acts a showrunner and will executive produce with Mackie, Will Arnett and Marc Foreman. The series is described as “a high-octane action-comedy series about a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck."

Stephanie Beatriz Comes To Twisted Metal After A Series of High Profile Roles

While Anthony Mackie is currently riding on a wave of Marvel success, Stephanie Beatriz also joins the new series on the back of some big roles. Having appeared in Brooklyn Nine-Nine for eight years, the actress has provided voiceovers in many TV shows and movies such as Bojack Horseman, Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous, Catwoman: Hunted, and of course as Mirabel Madgrial in Disney’s smash hit Encanto. She also had a role in 2021 movie In The Heights, and Twisted Metal will be one of her few on-screen roles, but potentially one of her biggest to date.

The series is going to be one of the biggest heading to Peacock, and the those behind the project are expecting it to deliver an action-packed thrill-ride for both fans and newcomers to the franchise. Lisa Katz, president of scripted content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said in a statement:

Twisted Metal has been a global phenomenon for more than 25 years but it was the creative vision for this live-action adaptation, led by Michael Jonathan Smith, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick, that blew us away. Also, Anthony Mackie starring made it undeniable! This adrenaline-infused comedy series is in expert hands with our partners at Sony Pictures Television, Playstation Productions and Universal Television, and will be the perfect addition to Peacock as we continue to look for uniquely entertaining programs.”

More information will likely come soon with filming expected to begin soon on the series, and by then we may also get closer to finding out exactly when the show will make its premiere on Peacock.
