It’s official. After several months of negotiations, Teen Wolf alum Tyler Hoechlin will return to his role as Derek Hale for the Paramount+ upcoming supernatural drama Teen Wolf The Movie. The Teen Wolf series aired on MTV for six seasons from 2011-2017. The entire 100-episode series library is currently streaming on Paramount+. It had been previously announced that fellow Teen Wolf alum Tyler Posey will also be returning for the movie sequel.

For nearly a year and half now, Hoechlin has found a new following of fans after being cast as the titular superhero in the CW’s action drama series Superman & Lois, which has only a few more episodes to go before going on hiatus. The news of Hoechlin’s return comes after the announcement that Vince Mattis will be playing the part of his 15-year-old son. In the series, Hoechlin's character Derek Hale helped guide Scott (Posey) but spent much of his time lurking in the background.

In the movie, a full moon rises in Beacon Hills and with it a terrifying evil has emerged. The wolves are howling once again, calling for the return of Banshees, Werecoyotes, Hellhounds, Kitsunes, and every other shapeshifter in the night. But only a werewolf like Scott McCall (Posey), no longer a teenager, yet still an Alpha, can gather both new allies and reunite trusted friends to fight back against what could be the most powerful and deadliest enemy they’ve ever faced.

Other cast members include Holland Roden, Shelley Hennig, Orny Adams, Crystal Reed, JR Bourne, Colton Haynes, Linden Ashby, Ryan Kelley, Melissa Ponzio, Ian Bohen, Nobi Nakanishi, Khylin Rhambo, Amy Workman and Dylan Sprayberry.

Tyler Hoechlin, along with Dylan O’Brien and Arden Cho, was one of the three holdouts from the reunion cast. Dylan O’Brien confirmed to Variety in March that he will not be in the film but noted that it was a difficult decision for him and although the show couldn’t be more dear to him, everything happened very fast. Arden Cho, on the other hand, refused to return because she was offered only half the salary compared to three female former series regular co-stars. Jeff Davis is also returning to write and produce the movie, which does not have a premiere date as yet.

Teen Wolf series was a global cultural phenomenon that had one of the largest and most loyal fandoms.
