UGO's esteemed Patrick dropped a minor bombshell on the Internet community today. And that's the news that Tyler Perry has chosen J.J. Abrams' Star Trek film as his segue into the geek community.

That's right, the head of the chitlin circuit is jumping out of his self-financed filmography for a role in next year's highly anticipated sci fi extravaganza. UGO claims that Perry will be playing the head of the Starfleet Academy. And that he is "a plain old fashioned human."

UGO also tells of the scene that Perry shot, saying that "Tyler's character is overseeing some kind of Starfleet courtroom/assembly event where young Kirk is facing expulsion from Starfleet. It turns out that the Starfleet prez didn't look too favorably on Cadet Kirk for "cheating" on one of his critical tests. And all you Trekkies out there know exactly what it is Kirk did: he rigged the Kobayashi Maru test so he could win it."
