Following her leaving Dancing with the Stars to pursue new endeavors, Tyra Banks has weighed in on the decision to have her replaced with Julianne Hough. Earlier this month, Banks made the announcement that she was finished with Dancing with the Stars after first coming on board in 2020. After initially serving as a solo host, Banks was joined by Alfonso Ribeiro as co-host in 2022. After Banks announced she was leaving, it was revealed that Hough would be teaming up with Ribeiro to serve as the new co-hosts of the dancing competition show moving forward.

In a new chat with US Weekly, Banks was asked about Hough, a vet of the show who previously served as both a contestant and judge, stepping in as co-host. For her part, Banks feels that the "perfect" choice was made with Hough, as there are several reasons that would make her a great candidate for the job. Part of that is from being a businesswoman and seeing the value in bringing back Hough in that role from a behind-the-scenes perspective. From the interview:

“The businesswoman in me sees how Julianne is great on multiple levels. She’s a professional dancer. She is the sister of Derek [Hough], a DWTS multi-champion, who is now a stellar judge. It’s going to be a family affair in that ballroom which people will love to watch. And she has so much personality and strong opinions backed by expertise. She’s a perfect choice! She’s gonna crush it!”

Banks said that the reason she's leaving is because her ice cream business is starting to take off, so she wants to put more focus into having that grow. She also wants to keep working in television, but as a producer, slipping into more of a behind-the-scenes position to help develop new content for the small screen. With all of that said, Banks admits she'll be missing her time on the dance floor.

“I loved walking out every week in over-the-top outfits to such a hyped ballroom. Seeing Derek Hough dance in person was such a treat. I’m going to miss Carrie Ann’s kindness and warm heart and of course reminiscing with Alfonso about the good ole Fresh Prince days."

For the new season of Dancing with the Stars, which will be streaming on Disney+ following the show's move to streaming from ABC, Derek Hough will serve as judge with Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli. Len Goodman announced after last season that he would be leaving as judge.
