Mark Wahlberg has been cast as Sully in the upcoming Uncharted movie. The project has Tom Holland on board as the young Nathan Drake. Wahlberg was originally attached to star as Drake in the movie with David O. Russell on board to direct. However, that project never ended up making it past the pre-production stage. And video game fans were left waiting for a new team to take it on. Thankfully, the project is back on track with Spider-Man: Far From Home star Holland set to play the lead role in the highly anticipated movie.

The upcoming Uncharted movie will be an origin story for Nathan Drake, though it was not originally planned that way. It is loosely based on the video game franchise of the same name. The project has passed hands many times over the years, but this time it looks like it's a sure deal with casting currently taking place. Travis Knight is behind the camera this time around with a story coming from Rafe Judkins, along with Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. It is believed that Mark Wahlberg still wanted to have some involvement in the movie after the studio decided to go the origin story route.

Mark Wahlberg will be playing Sully, who is Nathan Drake's mentor in the franchise. The character is an American treasure hunter and is known as a crafty businessman. He ends up taking a young Drake under his wing, which we will inevitably see on the big screen. The character usually ends up finding someone else to do his dirty work when it comes to finding treasure. Back in 2017, Bryan Cranston was rumored to be taking on the role of Sully, but that obviously did not end up happening.

Tom Holland originally said he would have liked to have had fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe stars Chris Pratt or Jake Gyllenhaal play the part of Sully. With that being said, Mark Wahlberg and Holland should make for a good on-screen combo, as they work together to hunt for treasure. Holland's choices would have also been pretty good as Sully. Maybe they'll end up in other roles as more of the casting is revealed in the coming weeks. For now, Holland and Wahlberg will lead the team.

The Uncharted video game series created by Naughty Dog and published by PlayStation. To date, the franchise has sold over41 million copies globally. A movie has been talked about for years now, so it's nice to finally see that things are moving forward. It's unclear when production will begin, but one would have to imagine soon since the movie is schedule to hit theaters on December 18th, 2020. Tom Holland is currently shooting Cherry with his old buddies, the Russo Brothers and is probably getting close to wrapping by this point. The Uncharted and Mark Wahlberg news was originally reported by Variety.
