Tom Holland is already back on the big screen in overseas theaters with the international release of Uncharted. Ahead of the video game adaptation's release in the United States, the film has premiered in 15 overseas markets to pull in a gross of $21.5 million for the weekend, per Variety. Those box office numbers will certainly climb much higher once the film is released in the U.S. and Canada on Feb. 18, when it will also drop in Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, and South Korea.

In the United Kingdom, Uncharted debuted in the No. 1 spot with $6.4 million. Its other grossed profits include $3.5 million in Spain, $4.5 million in Russia, $1.3 million in the Ukraine, and about $4 million collectively in the Middle East. The film is performing at about a 21% higher level than the hit Marvel film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

It will be interesting to see the overall haul pulled in by Uncharted after it gets released stateside and elsewhere. As of now, lead star Tom Holland is a box office king, still coming hot off of the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. With this momentum, the hope is that Holland's star power will help draw big crowds out to the theater to see Uncharted as well. Of course, Holland is not in the red-and-blue tights this time, but the film is still an action-packed adventure that the actor and the Uncharted filmmakers are hoping the fans will come out to support.

Not everyone has played the PlayStation video games that inspired the Uncharted film. Video game adaptations can tend to be hit or miss, and the cast and crew hope that people who've never played the video games will still have fun watching the movie. Per PlayStation Blog, Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann has previously spoken about how director Ruben Fleischer's idea is to appeal to "both hardcore fans of the game and those who are not yet familiar with the franchise." He also feels that both will be "equally entertained by this incredibly fun and action-packed film."

Ruben Fleischer directs Uncharted using a script by Rafe Lee Judkins, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway. Judkins developed the story with Jon Hanley Rosenberg and Mark D. Walker. The film stars Tom Holland, Mark Wahlberg, Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Antonio Banderas. It will be released in the U.S. and Canada on Feb. 18, 2022, and you can read the official synopsis below.

Street-smart Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to recover a fortune amassed by Ferdinand Magellan and lost 500 years ago by the House of Moncada. What starts as a heist job for the duo becomes a globe-trotting, white-knuckle race to reach the prize before the ruthless Santiago Moncada (Antonio Banderas), who believes he and his family are the rightful heirs. If Nate and Sully can decipher the clues and solve one of the world’s oldest mysteries, they stand to find $5 billion in treasure and perhaps even Nate’s long-lost brother...but only if they can learn to work together.
