Showtime has hired screenwriter Brian K. Vaughan (Lost, Runaways) to adapt the Stephen King novel Under the Dome. We first reported on this back in August when Showtime acquired the rights to Under the Dome.

The story centers on a Maine tourist trap, whose residents become inexplicably cut off from the rest of the world when a force field goes up around their sleepy town. The seclusion starts to drive the townsfolk mad, as they begin to battle one another. It is said that Showtime underwent an exhaustive search to find a writer for this project, before hiring Brian K. Vaughan.

Falling Skies producers Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank will executive produce Under the Dome for DreamWorks Television, alongside Stephen King, Steven Spielberg, and Stacey Snider.

It still isn't known if Under the Dome is being developed as a mini-series, or as a regular series for Showtime.
