Last month, we reported that Lakeshore Entertainment is developing a reboot of their Underworld franchise, with screenwriter Cory Goodman (Priest, Apollo 18) coming aboard to write the script. Today, we have word from The Hollywood Reporter that this project is not a reboot at all, with Divergent star Theo James set to reprise his role from 2012's Underworld Awakening as the vampire David.

Theo James' David will be the central character in this new project, which will expand the existing Underworld franchise. Insiders claim that Lakeshore still has an option on the actor due to his work on Underworld Awakening, and he will star alongside two new female characters. Casting is currently under way for those roles, with plans to start shooting this spring.

Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi are producing for Lakeshore, although a director has not been attached at this time.

Theo James made his feature film debut in Underworld Awakening, which lead to roles in Red Tails, The Inbetweeners and his breakout role as Four in the young adult adaptation Divergent. He is slated to reprise that role in The Divergent Series: Insurgent and the two-part finale The Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 1 and The Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 2. He also recently wrapped on two independent projects, London Fields and Franny, and starred on the short-lived CBS TV series Golden Boy.
