The new season of Undone will premiere on Prime Video later this month, and a new trailer gives fans a sneak peek at what's to come. The trailer first premiered during the show's panel at WonderCon 2022, and all eight episodes are scheduled to premiere on Friday, April 29. It has since been made available online and you can watch the trailer below.

Undone comes from acclaimed creators Kate Purdy and Raphael Bob-Waksberg (BoJack Horseman). It is described as a half-hour "genre-bending animated dramedy that explores the elastic nature of reality through its central character, Alma (Rosa Salazar), a 28-year-old living in San Antonio, Texas alongside her mother Camila (Constance Marie) and sister Becca (Angelique Cabral). After getting into a car accident and nearly dying, Alma finds she has a new relationship to time. She develops this new ability in order to find out the truth about her father Jacob’s (Bob Odenkirk) death.

In season 2, Alma realizes there are deeper mysteries in her family’s past. However, no one in her family is interested in digging up uncomfortable truths with her—until she finally convinces her sister Becca to help her look. As the sisters search for answers, they unravel a complex network of memories and motivations that have shaped who they are today. They realize by healing this family trauma they can make all of their lives better."

Undone Is Animated with Rotoscope Animation

Undone
Prime Video

The unique look of Undone's rotoscope animation, which is a first for episodic television, is developed under the tutelage of director Hisko Hulsing (Cobain: Montage of Heck). Hulsing utilizes a variety of mediums, including oil painting on canvas to render the backgrounds. Per Amazon, Amsterdam-based animation studio Submarine assembled an incredible team of artists and painters from all over Europe to bring all the animation elements to life, with the rotoscoping elements being handled by the veteran team behind A Scanner Darkly at Austin-based Minnow Mountain (Tower).

Purdy and Bob-Waksberg executive produce Undone alongside Noel Bright (BoJack Horseman), Steven A. Cohen (BoJack Horseman), Tommy Pallotta (A Scanner Darkly), Femke Wolting (Tower), Bruno Felix (Tower), and Hulsing. Hulsing also serves as the series director and production designer. Rosa Salazar and Bob Odenkirk serve as producers. Undone is produced by Amazon Studios and Tornante Productions.

"We wanted to make sure that we grounded the show in the real world; that it felt like this is a real woman with real relationships making these choices that she makes," Bob-Waksberg previously told Screen Rant of the show's conception. "Not just, 'I’m Dorothy, and I live in Kansas. I can’t wait to go over the rainbow. And then all of a sudden, I do!' Or even like The Matrix – this idea of, 'All of a sudden, the world is so much bigger, and I am all on this. I’ve chosen the correct pill and here I go.' We wanted the choice to be more difficult than that, so we wanted to spend time with the character in the real world and feel like this was a real character."

Bob-Waksberg added, "The idea of rotoscoping animation felt like a great way to do that. It feels realer than most animated shows. But then also, because it’s animated, when the freaky stuff starts happening it doesn’t feel like, 'Okay, here come the special effects.' It feels like an outgrowth of the reality we’ve already established."

Undone will premiere its second season on Prime Video when all eight episodes start streaming on April 29, 2022.
