GK Films has hired Scott Frank (Minority Report, The Lookout) to write and direct Unforgiven.

We first reported on this project last August, when Christopher McQuarrie was writing the script as a potential starring vehicle for Angelina Jolie. The actress was never formally attached to the project, though, and it will be quite some time before Scott Frank finishes his draft and focuses on casting.

Unforgiven is based on the 2009 BBC mini-series and focuses on a woman who returns to society after serving a 15-year stint in prison for murdering two cops. The double-murder happened when the cops tried to evict her family from their farmhouse. When she is released, her plans to live a quiet life are disrupted when two sons of one of the slain cops come after her.

No production schedule was given for Unforgiven, which will be produced by Graham King and Tim Headington.
