Universal Pictures has picked up the rights to the drama, Hurricane Season.
The film is a post-Hurricane Katrina drama based on the upcoming documentary Walking on Dead Fish that producer Franklin Martin wrote, directed, and produced. Hurricane Season will tell the true story of the football team at East St. John High School, located just outside New Orleans. The Hollywood Reporter adds the team struggled with integrating displaced students from surrounding high school teams and tried to help rebuild their community following Katrina.
Martin, a former NBA agent-turned-filmmaker, read about the team and decided to turn their story into a documentary, which he worked on during the past five months. When he showed his Gersh agents some rough footage, it was decided that he would turn it into a feature pitch. Mark Gordon took to the story and brought it to Universal.
There is no production schedule yet for Hurricane Season.
