It seems that Universal Pictures is bringing a long-running hit play to the silver screen. Deadline New York is reporting that Universal Pictures is in early preperations for an adaptation of the musical Wicked.

The site also reports that high-caliber directors such as J.J. Abrams, James Mangold, Rob Marshall and Glee creator Ryan Murphy have either met with the studio or are being considered to direct the film.

The play's producer Marc Platt, writer Winnie Holzman and songwriter Stephen Schwartz are all developing the film at Universal. It was said that the idea was first crafted to be a feature film before turning to the stage.
