Universal Pictures has bought the rights to the family comedy, Mr. Machine from a pitch by David Gordon Green and Danny McBride.

Brian Grazer will produce, while Jon Heder and his brothers Dan and Doug are in negotiations to executive produce via their Greasy Entertainment production company. The Hollywood Reporter describes the film as a throwback to the high-concept Amblin family comedies of the 1980s; it revolves around three brainy slackers who build a robot that wants to take over the world.

No production schedule has been set for Mr. Machine.
