In a story from Variety, Universal Pictures has picked up the rights to David Wroblewski's book The Story of Edgar Sawtelle.
The plan is for the film to be produced by Playtone's Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman and Harpo Films partners Oprah Winfrey and Kate Forte.
The Story of Edgar Sawtelle has been on the bestseller charts for 30 weeks. Being selected as a title for Oprah's Book Club also helped.
The Story of Edgar Sawtelle looks at a mute teenager and his "family that's raised a coveted breed of dog for generations." When Edgar's father passes away, his uncle comes to live with him and he runs away with his dogs.
