According to Variety, Universal Pictures has preemptively picked up Rodney Rothman's pitch The Something for the mid-six figures.

Rothman was the youngest head writer in the history of Late Night With David Letterman. He is going to write and produce this project. Not much is known about the story except that it is "an ensemble comedy/horror hybrid set in deep space, similar in tone to Sony's breakout hit Zombieland."

Universal's Erik Baiers and Anikah McLaren are going to oversee this project for the studio.

The Something is Rothman's first solo writing and producing job.
