In a story from Variety, Universal Pictures is going to remake David Cronenberg's 1983 thriller Videodrome.

Ehren Kruger (The Skeleton Key) will be writing the script. He will also be producing with Daniel Bobker.

Universal distributed the 1983 version and immediately jumped on board the remake.

In the first one, James Woods played the head of Civic TV Channel 83. He jazzes up the ratings by producing a show called "Videodrome." This show shows torture and murder that grabs viewer's attention.

The new one will introduce the idea of nano-technology and make the film a large-scale sci-fi action piece.

Cronenberg is not yet involved in this project.
