On July 1st, Universal Studios Home Video will release Brighton Beach Memoirs, The Babe, Mr. Baseball, Ed, and The Dream Team on DVD. None will include any extras of note, but they will have undergone a new anamorphic widescreen transfers and Dolby Digital 2.0 surround tracks, with the exception of Ed, which gets a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound track, plus trailers on each disc. Retail price is only $14.95.

But wait there's so much more. On August 12th, the dam breaks. How about a list?

Backbeat

For Love or Money

Kuffs

Playing for Keeps

Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band

Gotcha!

The Ugly American

The Night of the Following Day

Hard to Hold

Each is presented in a new anamorphic widescreen and contains a Dolby Digital 2.0 surround sound track. The only exceptions are Backbeat, which is presented in a full frame only version, and For Love or Money, which will also contain a Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 surround sound track. Each will also come with a trailer and retail for $14.95. I love Gotcha!, never thought I would get a widescreen version of it, certainly one of Anthony Edward's best, that and Revenge of the Nerds.

Finally, arriving on August 12th are two special editions from Universal, the much delayed and anticipated Steven Spielberg classic Duel.

Duel is a great film, a blueprint on how to build cinematic tension. The other of the two special editions announced is Mask.

Mask will be contain a 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby 5.1 surround track, a commentary by the director, deleted scenes and the trailer. Retail price for each is $19.95.
