Paramount Pictures' Untitled Jack Ryan Project has suffered a setback by losing director Jack Bender, whose burgeoning TV schedule forced him to drop out.

This is not the first sign of trouble for this reboot of the character created by novelist Tom Clancy. We reported last March that script issues forced Paramount to delay the Untitled Jack Ryan Project, which still has Chris Pine attached to star. The studio was hoping to start production this summer, after Chris Pine wrapped on Star Trek 2. That plan may now be in danger, unless Paramount can quickly find a replacement for Jack Bender. David Koepp took over the writing duties on the Untitled Jack Ryan Project back in April.

Jack Bender currently serves as an executive producer/director on the Fox series Alcatraz, and has signed on to direct the Syfy pilot Rewind.
