The Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Project has added three new cast members in Laura Dern, Jesse Plemons, and David Warshofsky. We reported earlier this month that Laura Dern was in talks for this religious project, and now she has officially signed on.

The story is loosely based on the foundation of Scientology, centering on a man known only as The Master (Philip Seymour Hoffman), who creates a controversial belief system which gains a massive following. Joaquin Phoenix will play a drifter who becomes The Master's second in command, although he starts to question The Master's motives. It isn't known what role Laura Dern will play, although Jesse Plemons is portraying The Master's son, while David Warshofsky is playing a police detective.

Paul Thomas Anderson will direct the project, which was previously known as The Master, from his own original screenplay. Production is scheduled to start in mid-June, on location in Sacramento, California.
