UPDATE: 2/16/10 11 AM PSTScreen Daily spoke with Lars Von Trier's producing partner Peter Aalbaek Jensen who denied the rumor of this remake. Here's an excerpt from their article:

"I have seen it [the story] in the Danish film magazine and what is written there is not true," von Trier's business partner Peter Aalbaek Jensen told Screen.

Jensen confirmed the directors had met at the Berlinale but said rumours von Trier wanted to re-make Taxi Driver were "rubbish".

Original Story:The Berlin Film Festival is in full swing and perhaps the most controversial rumor of the year so far has come out of the fest. Empire is citing unconfirmed reports that directors Martin Scorcese and Lars Von Trier are teaming up for a Taxi Driver remake... with original star Robert De Niro set to star in the lead role.

The reports appear to originate from a Danish film magazine, Ekko, which reported that Von Trier's producing partner Peter Aalbak said and official announcement would be made soon, although he would neither confirm nor deny the rumor.
