It's not just for the kids, though. Phillippe indicated he's gunning for the part himself. "I'm really into it," he said. "We'll see what happens, but yeah, it'd be fun."

We'll be sure to keep you posted with any further casting updates with The First Avenger: Captain America as soon as we have more information.

Original Story:

We reported last week that The First Avenger: Captain America has found its villain in Hugo Weaving and the search for the title character still continues, with another actor being mentioned for the role. Hitfix is reporting that Ryan Phillippe is the latest actor that Marvel Studios is considering to play The First Avenger: Captain America.

Last week we also reported that Garrett Hedlund and Mike Vogel were currently the front-runners and that Chris Evans was in contention for the role as well. With this latest news of Phillippe joining the fold, it's hard to tell who indeed is the front-runner for this role now.

Joe Johnston will direct the film based off a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The First Avenger: Captain America is currently set for a July 22, 2011 release date.
