Jordan Peele is making sure that we have an unsettling Christmas day. After a week of first-look images, a new poster, and a very brief teaser, we now have the first full-length trailer for Us. Though Peele's excellent Get Out was released last year, he immediately started to write what eventually became Us early this year. By May, the title was revealed and that Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, and Elisabeth Moss would star. In July, it was announced that Tim Heidecker, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Anna Diop had joined the cast.

The Us trailer doesn't really give us a whole lot of information as to what the movie will actually be about, but that's what trailers are expected to do. With that being said, Lupita Nyong'o's Adelaide Wilson character is paranoid that something terrible is going to happen to her family while they are vacationing in a Northern California coastal community. Her paranoia proves to be warranted, but we're not exactly sure why, just like we weren't exactly sure what was going on with Get Out when its first trailer was released.

Jordan Peele has said that he wanted to "create a monster mythology" with Us. The director also said that he wanted to make a movie that is "firmly in the horror genre," while also keeping things interesting at the same time. From the looks of the trailer, it definitely looks interesting, but we'll have to wait until the movie is released early next year to see if he achieved the rest of his goals for his project. Lupita Nyong'o does support some of what Peele was talking about, noting that Us is a "relentless nightmare."

A relentless nightmare sure seems like it will fit nicely into the horror genre. Lupita Nyong'o also recently revealed that Us taps into "out worst fears," while stating that we can sometimes "be our own worst enemies." These are all very intriguing anecdotes and they have started to fuel speculation on social media about what Jordan Peele is trying to accomplish with the new movie. Whatever the case may be, it's probably going to be a lot different than what any of us are probably thinking of after seeing the first trailer and pairing it with the little bit of information that has been teased out.

Jordan Peele released Get Out in 2017 after working on the hit Comedy Central series Key and Peele, and nobody saw what he had coming. Peele has always been very vocal about his love of the horror genre, but not a lot of people expected the comedian to make the jump from Comedy Central to the Academy Awards with his first movie. However, he pulled it off and there is a lot of pressure for Us to replicate that success. As evidenced by the first trailer, Peele is off to a great start.
